about the club ☻
〜 unplugged club ☻ Budapest was created to offer a welcoming space for intentional activities and meaningful conversations — without screens.
the club was started in March 2026 by Juliana (a.k.a. Ju), a Brazilian expat who has been living and working in Budapest for 12 years. the idea was simple: to create a community where people could slow down, put their phones away, and spend time connecting with others in person.
the club brings people together through different kinds of experiences and shared interests — creating opportunities to move beyond the usual small talk and talk about ideas, hobbies, life, and the things we're curious about. a place for meaningful connections to happen naturally, without the pressure to make them happen.
the idea was partly inspired by Silent Book Club, a global community built around the simple idea of bringing people together to read in the same space, without the expectation or pressure to socialize. the club takes a similar spirit beyond books, creating different ways for people to meet, connect, and simply spend time together offline.
a few tips for a smoother unplugged club experience on Meetup ☻
- 01
add a profile picture
so we can recognize you when you join an event, especially if we're meeting for the first time.
- 02
use your first name on Meetup
rather than an anonymous username. it makes it easier to know who we're talking to.
- 03
turn on Meetup notifications and/or emails
so you don't miss event updates or important messages.
- 04
keep an eye on your Meetup messages
we may send you practical information about an upcoming event there.
- 05
allow messages from other Meetup members
if you message the host with a question, this allows us to reply to you.
- 06
if an event has a contribution fee, please send it when you register
it helps keep the club running and makes the organizing side a little easier.
- 07
join our WhatsApp group
once you've joined a few events, we'd be happy to have you there and keep the community going beyond individual meetups.
that's it, really.
